The StepUp scholars program is Nigeria's premier research mentorship program! Students are matched with a Lecturer/Professor at some of Nigeria's best universities and work with them for around 8 weeks over the summer.

Benefits of Being a StepUp Scholar

Canvas Course

The Program starts with an online course where you are introduced to the fundamentals of research. You will learn everything from Research Question Formulation, the statistics and even philosophical approaches to Science.

Mentorship

This is the main perk of being a StepUp Scholar! We will connect you to a Professor at a Nigerian university who aligns closely with your academic interests. Together, you will come up with a research question and plan. Most of our mentors and mentee stay connected even after the program ends!

Speaker Events

During the course of the program, we will invite speakers to talk about techniques and careers in research. Our past speakers have included people from Ivy League schools like Dartmouth College.

Stipend

We compensate our scholars with an appreciable stipend. The stipend is designed to help cover the costs of any barriers you might have to working on your project: think Data costs.

Previous scholars have undertaken incredibly exciting projects. We understand that 8 weeks is a brief period to develop and complete something truly groundbreaking.
